It’s Begun! Sardine Run 2019 is here! Making new friends is one of our favorite things. Timo Dersch shares his experience so far!
Sunfish (Mola Mola) enjoy cold water however, they are often found on the surface, basking in the sun.
Dusky Sharks, Common Dolphins (Delphinus delphis), and Gannets (Morus capensis) work symbiotically to maintain the Sardine Run bait ball so as to optimize their own feeding opportunities.
So often we have photographic opportunities that will blow your friends’ minds.
Dusky Sharks (Carcharhinus obscurus) can grow up to 3 meters and live up to 50 years old. They are often seen feeding on the Sardine Run. Common Dolphins grow up to 2.4m, hunting in pods of up to 50 dolphins. They have a life span of up to 25 years.
The Sardine Run is part of the Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) migration route, this meant that you were guaranteed of seeing them EVERY DAY on Sardine Run 2019. Their migration starts in our winter months May – June when they move north. Following this, they move back South in our Spring months with their calves September to October.
Oceanic Predators such as Sharks, Dolphins, and Birds compete for their tasty little morsel of Sardine (Sardinops sagax).
