THE ANNUAL SARDINE RUN MIGRATION

Join Sardine Run South Africa and experience the annual sardine run migration phenomenon when the migration of millions of sardines takes place off the coast of Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape of South Africa bringing a huge diversity of marine life predators with them. These include whales, sharks, dolphins, diving gannets, game fish, penguins, seals and more.

The Sardine Run happens every year from May through to July along South Africa’s east coast. Experience first-hand how the dolphins round up the sardines into large bait balls, which can be up to 10-20m in diameter and reach depths of 10m. The aftereffect of these bait balls forming create opportunities for dolphins, sharks, whales and numerous different predators to take advantage and plough through the bait balls, consuming mouthfuls as they go.

During your Sardine Run trip you will likewise get to dive one of the top-10 dive sites in the world, the Aliwal Shoal in KwaZulu-Natal, before we head down toward the Eastern Cape. Here, Cremorne Estate, will be your home for the rest of your Sardine Run experience and is rated as the ‘Best Sardine Run Accommodation’ in Port St. Johns.

Our Sardine Run South Africa packages include Airport Transfers, ALL Transport and Transfers, Accommodation, Scuba Diving, Cylinders, Air-fills, Weights, Weight Belts and Diver Permits as required for your specific sardine run package.
